Built in 1680, the old Westphalian half-timbered building housed a tavern very early on. The innkeeper Heinrich Markmann is documented as owner from 1764 to 1837. From 1950 to 1960, Eduard and Christel Burbaum managed the establishment, and from 1960 Max and Mathilde Burbaum continued it. Since 1962, Burbaums Restaurant Waltrop has been family-owned and has been run by Eduard Burbaum jun. in the third generation since 1992.
